Lenten Holden Evening Prayer with Character Dramas

The Rev. Dr. Alix Pridgen

Wednesday nights beginning February 21st at 7:00 PM we will gather in the small Chapel (turn left at the end of the main hall) for Holden Evening Prayer and dramatic portrayals of key New Testament characters. Our cast members are working hard to prepare--so please come and support them!  You'll find the chapel is an especially lovely intimate setting with wonderful acoustics for our singing. We will also live stream the service on Zoom using the same link, ID & password we use for Sunday mornings for those who cannot attend in person.

Watching The Chosen with Pastor Susan Langhauser

The Rev. Dr. Alix Pridgen

Together, Let's Do this!!

This Lenten season please join Pastor Susan Langhauser (and Pastor Alix) on Zoom each Monday at 6:30PM (beginning Feb. 19th with Season 1, Episode 2) as we watch and discuss The Chosen  (starting with season 1).

Pastor Langhauser will stream the video in our Zoom meeting and then lead us in an open discussion. She has presented this series three or four times with other groups and also worked as an "extra" during the filming of Season 4 -- so she's our resident expert!

We will watch two episodes each week and follow with discussion concluding around 8:00PM.

Please watch Season 1, Episode 1 on your own before the first session.

Come and join the crowd of women and men who followed Jesus and be immersed in the world he lived in. You'll experience the scriptures in a whole new way!

Zoom Meeting ID: 830 6632 1563

If you aren't able to participate every Monday you can watch on your own for free at watch.thechosen.tv (3 seasons). Seasons 1 and 2 are also available on Netflix, Prime Video, Hulu, Peacock, and other streaming services.  If you download the free phone app "The Chosen" you can watch "on the go" or "cast" it to any smart TV. The app also allows you to access additional resources (also free).

Holy work...

The Rev. Dr. Alix Pridgen

The Bible is filled with references to work--to occupations and vocations--and people whose faith informs that work. If we list just a few we peer into world in many ways like our own.  There were tent makers, soldiers, politicians and monarchs, teachers, shipbuilders, midwives, healers, potters, spinners and weavers, dancers, priests and religious leaders, public speakers, scribes, guides, shepherds, parents, sowers, reapers, wine-makers, vineyard keepers, managers, jailors, builders, architects, sellers and business owners, servants, overseers, metallurgists, miners, iron workers, artists, cooks, prophets, fortunetellers, astronomers, professional mourners, grave keepers, guards, judges, librarians, dream interpreters, fishermen, musicians, and sailors...

In the Bible work and faith are inextricably linked; there is no separation between God's work and daily work.  Martin Luther (a 16th century professor and priest) preached that our vocation--our work--was also spiritual and holy work. In his day as in ours people tended to separate the two and that simply isn't biblical.

How often do you think of your work as God's work?  How often do you think of your workplace as holy?  According to Luther, mucking out the barn and changing the baby's diapers are just as holy--just as sacred--(and often more so) than a priest leading prayers at the altar.  What work do you perform (paid or volunteer--occupational and vocational)?  How does your faith inform what you do? What are the challenges you run into?
