Episode 13: God's Foolishness

The Rev. Dr. Alix Pridgen

Sermon on I Corinthians 1:18-25

"For the message about the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. For it is written, “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and the discernment of the discerning I will thwart.” Where is the one who is wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? For since, in the wisdom of God, the world did not know God through wisdom, God decided, through the foolishness of our proclamation, to save those who believe. For Jews demand signs and Greeks desire wisdom, but we proclaim Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles, but to those who are the called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. For God’s foolishness is wiser than human wisdom, and God’s weakness is stronger than human strength."

Episode 12: Taking Up a Cross

The Rev. Dr. Alix Pridgen

Sermon on Mark 8:31-38 delivered 2/25/2018, Lent 2B, by Pastor Alix Pridgen

”The Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders, chief priests and scribes, and be put to death… and after three days rise again.”

Episode 10: Confronting Demons

The Rev. Dr. Alix Pridgen

Sermon on The Gospel According to Mark 1:21-28 delivered by Pastor Alix Pridgen

Jesus is teaching in a synagogue on the Sabbath when he is confronted by a man with an unclean spirit. Jesus casts out the spirit.  How might we also cast out those "spirits" that seek to diminish our lives and the lives of others?

Episode 9: A Word of Hope for All People

The Rev. Dr. Alix Pridgen

Sermon on the story of Jonah. Delivered 1/21/2018 by The Rev. Dr. Alix D. Pridgen.

No one is beyond the reach of God's mercy and forgiveness. We are called to offer that word of hope to everyone -- especially those we think are least deserving of it.
